Communication with possible aliens has been a subject of intense interest and exploration not only in the minds of researchers but also in the general public at large. Serious applications through the establishment of search agencies like SETI have failed to yield convincing results to date, which may be due to constraints at the technological or conceptual level or both.
However, the quest continues, and with ever-increasing technological advancements, we may succeed in our endeavor in the near future. This brief article explores the possibility and potential of telepathy (a non-conventional mode of communication) that may be exploited in alien communication in view of interstellar hurdles like distance and speed. Further, the yet unknown morphological state and behavior of aliens are also required to be borne in mind.
Biological effects of electromagnetism
The human body is not immune to the biological effects of electromagnetism. Several studies have reported the definite influence of electromagnetism on human psychology and physiology.
In one study, magnetic fields were found to alter mood upon exposure of patients to trans-magnetic stimulation (TMS). In another study, geomagnetic activity data collected over a period of 10 years was found to be highly related to patients suffering from depressive disorders that subsequently got admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Partonen et al also found a relationship between geomagnetic activity and the relative risk of suicides in a large number of cases, the data of which was spread over a period of 20 years. Other researchers have found both systolic and diastolic BP to rise with an increase in geomagnetic activity. A positive trend was also observed between geomagnetic activity and subjective psycho-physiological complaints.
Mechanism of electromagnetic field (EMF) effects.
The electrical component of EMF can be weakened by a technique of shielding by human skin in contrast to a magnetic component that cannot be weakened and can penetrate as deep as 6-7 inches into a human body. Thus, the magnetic component of EMF is more influential on health as compared to the electrical component.
According to some researchers, the modulation of mood and behavior is probably attributable to a direct effect of ambient EMF on sleep regulation and pineal gland functioning. At a cellular level, it is believed to influence membrane permeability and activity of superoxide dismutase and reactive oxygen species.
The enigmatic nature of the temporal lobe of the human brain The temporal lobe (TL) is the most intriguing part of the human brain and continues to remain a subject of intense exploration even today.
Ongoing research continues to unfold interesting and complex aspects of this brain region. TL stimulation leads to experiential illusion ranging from memories of past events to vivid and even divine/mystic experiences. This is in sharp contrast to other brain areas that exhibit overt signs and manifestations upon stimulation.
Paranormal events/experiences like deja vu, Jamais vu, and premonitions are all documented upon right T.L. stimulation. Some researchers report that experiences like near-death experiences and out-of-body experiences are also intimately linked with the temporal lobe.
Temporal lobe lability is described by several researchers as a state of presentation of an increased number of minor symptoms associated with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in the absence of any seizure attack. Apparitions before death are also a well-documented phenomenon seen in dying In a nutshell, anomalous experiences of all types have been localized to TLs that contribute to the enigmatic nature of the TLs, on account of which TL dysfunction or TLE also manifest in widely diversified forms.
In one case study, a 12-year-old girl suffering from TLE reported leaving her body and traveling down a tunnel; this was not a case of near-death experience and was subsequently diagnosed as a case of right TLE supported by valid EEG findings.
The temporal lobe is known to be the most susceptible brain region to hypoxia, ischemia, and injury. In dying patients, there is compromised blood flow to the brain, which could lead to inhibition of inhibitory neurons (that require a certain level of oxygen to remain inhibited) in the brain especially TL, which in turn leads to hyper-excitation of certain neurons leading to illusions or even hallucinations; the latter two phenomena also may result from excessive accumulation of neurotransmitter metabolites not washed away due to compromised blood flow.
Electromagnetism and alien interaction.
In an earlier article, it has been postulated that it is the electromagnetic field (EMF) that is a more potent and reliable indicator of the existence of a civilization/species on celestial bodies, apart from its easy detection. Hence, alien interactions (encounters and invasions) may be suggested to be linked to EM field and EM radiation (EMR) activity present on a celestial body, Earth in our case.
The intensity of the EM field may be proportional to technological development and advancement and/or population density that may scare or repel alien interactions on one hand and on the other hand might attract and invite such interactions depending upon the nature of aliens.
Based on the EM field hypothesis, it can be speculated that the greater the technological advancement of the aliens, the stronger would be the EM field associated with their inhabited regions. A plausible reason for our failure to communicate with aliens could also be due to the EM radiation emanating from the Earth that could be acting as repulsive or threatening to the aliens leading to their evasion from communicating with us.
The success of attempts to telecommunicate with aliens may reside in the frequency range of EM radiations utilized for the purpose. Low-frequency EM radiation would scatter minimally and is more likely to reach the target (scattering of EMR being inversely proportional to its frequency) in contrast to high-frequency EMR signals that could scatter and stray away from the target.
Alien communication is probably more important than an encounter or invasion and therefore likely to precede an actual encounter, although the possibility of inability or failure to receive their communication signals or messages cannot be ruled out on account of the two extremes of technological development that exist on the Earth.
Either we may be much less technologically advanced than the aliens or the communication signals from aliens may be very primitive such as those present in lower species like ants, birds, etc. However, it is more likely that aliens who can traverse large inter-planetary or inter-galactic distances are much more technologically advanced than us.
Postulated temporal lobe mediated telepathic mode in alien communication. The role of TL in language and speech is well recognized and documented. TL is important for language (linguistic) functions also and linguistic deficits have been observed in some patients with chronic mesial TLE. Speech disturbances have been reported earlier also by Blumer and Benson in TLE.
Telepathy is the direct transfer of thoughts amongst humans without the involvement of normal sensory modes of transfer. It is a recognized mode of communication, although, not widely trusted; hence, the fluency, potential, and efficiency of this mode of communication are not subjected to development as other conventional modes of communication like speech, body language, etc; hence, it may be viewed as an extrasensory or paranormal ability.
It is suggested that EM fields can alter paranormal abilities, possibly telepathy also; therefore, telepathy may be related to the EM field implying that the medium of telepathy could be EM radiation. It has been suggested that telepathy may be mediated via EM fields.
The temporal lobes are believed to be quite sensitive to extremely low magnetic frequencies and geomagnetic activity interaction with TL neuronal activity has been found to result in paranormal experiences similar to mystic experiences observed during electrical stimulation of the temporal lobes. Further, it has been demonstrated that EM fields can trigger hallucinations and even temporal lobe micro seizures. Damage of temporal lobes results in a large number of signs and symptoms, several of which show a striking similarity to that reported by people who claim encounters with alien(s)
Most subjects who claim to have experienced alien encounters and/or encounters have been found to suffer electrical disruption in the brain including TL and similar “flashbacks” throughout life; the flashbacks could be due to ongoing or periodic bombardment of EM radiation pulses on the human brain, the possibility of which needs to be borne in mind, especially in view of studies on subjects exposed to external EM radiation who report experiences very similar to standard abductions.
This raises a fairly logical question of the possible and potential ability of aliens to utilize EM radiation as a mode of telecommunication or at least a valid reason to explore the same.
Is it likely or possible that EM radiation may be sensed, analyzed, and interpreted by some technological advancement attained by the aliens? And also to determine the nature and sources of EM radiation differentially. This feature needs to be delved into for the purpose of exploring the reasons for failure at communication with aliens to date, as it could have repelled them from communicating with us or kept them hidden/unrevealed from us.
Another aspect that warrants an insightful study is the possibility that aliens might also have mastered the art of telepathy that may be involved in alien encounters and so-called abductions.
Further, do alien encounters actually depict alien communication with the victims through distant or remote telepathy or stimulation of the victims’ temporal lobes as the stimulation of the latter is known to result in “experiential illusions” that may be perceived by the victims as “alien encounters” or “abductions”. This is a remote but valid possibility.
